Norwalk, CT (April 25, 2018) – Saturday, April 14, 2018 was an exciting day for the jewelry industry. The day officially marked the return of JIS to the Miami Beach Convention Center, after the venue was temporarily closed to accommodate a $625 million renovation and upgrade project. Buyers arrived hours before the JIS April Show opened to secure their badges and get in line. Quickly the line grew and at 10:00 AM, the doors officially opened.
Even as the most intimate JIS Show of the year, the show floor was buzzing early on with excited attendees arriving from the Latin America, the Caribbean, and the South East United States. They were ready to shop the many aisles of Fine Jewelry, Fashion, and Silver exhibitors, with 20% of the exhibitors being brand new to JIS April and the show growing 13% in size over last year. Attendance on opening day was up 19% from 2017, and just two days later, the show closed with a total attendance increase of 24% over last year. More than 20% of attending stores traveled to beautiful Miami Beach from outside of the United States. As the commerce hub for the Caribbean and Latin America, Miami Beach and the new convention center was a huge draw for international attendees.
Jordan Tuchband, Industry Vice President of JIS Shows, who has been with the show for 19 years, said “It was one of the most successful JIS April Shows I’ve been a part of. We were all so excited to finally be back in Miami Beach, in a beautiful new state of the art venue and attendance shows that we were not the only ones. Everything from new exhibitors, new attendees, and even new catering at the venue made it a truly great return home (to Miami Beach). It’s always incredible to see the jewelry industry come together with such a positive vibe, and where better than to do it than in Miami Beach? We’re really excited for the future in Miami Beach; especially looking towards the first JIS October Show in the newly renovated venue. JIS October is our largest JIS Show of the year, and this year features a partnership and co-location with the Centurion South Beach Show Pavilion.”
The next show in the JIS portfolio is JIS Exchange. It will take place in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, June 1-4, 2018, alongside JCK Las Vegas.
