Getting Here

For those traveling by air, the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is only 5 minutes away from the Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center and Downtown. FLL offers the lowest fares in South Florida with 300 daily departures to over 100 destinations in the US, Latin America, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Getting to Ft. Lauderdale downtown from the airport:

  • Taxi (excluding gratuity and tolls)
    • To 17th Street - $18-$20
    • To Ft. Lauderdale Beach - $18-$20
    • To Hollywood - $23-$30

Taxi and Shared Ride services have visible kiosks outside of each terminal's baggage claim area. Taxicab stands are centrally located at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and major hotels. Fares are $4.50 for the first mile, $2.40 for each additional mile and $.40 for each minute of waiting time.

Time Zone

Ft. Lauderdale is in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (Greenwich Mean Time minuse five hours during daylight saving time, from March through November, and minus six hours the rest of the year). View the current date and time in Ft. Lauderdale.

Tipping Guidelines

  • Hotel Doorman: $3 for hailing a cab
  • Porters and bellhops: $1-$2 per bag
  • Maids: $1-$2 per person, per day of your visit or as much as $5 per day
  • Waitstaff and bartenders: 15-20 percent of the total bill
  • Taxi Drivers – 15-20 percent of total fare

It's worth noting that if you're having drinks at a bar, bartenders typically expect a $2 tip for every drink they serve you. Later, when the bar gets crowded you'll be glad that they bartender remembers you!
